Some Crowdsourcing Search Stats
The buzz around Crowdourcing has been building up ever since the 2006 Jeff Howe article on Wired, but even more recently in the past few months. The number of news about it is going up, the number of projects aswell. But is is reflected on search terms?
That’s what we went to find out using the Google Insight for Search tool. And the short answer is yes, it is reflected.
As you can see in the following graph from Google Trends, there was a spike in search for information about crowdourcing around the publication, but then it has been steadily rising till today.
The graph is pretty clear on the evolution of search interest.
Another trend is that while first the search was mainly in the US, now it has fast spread to other countries aswell.

As we can see on the table, the country where there’s more interest in Crowdsourcing (according to Google searches) is now the Netherlands, followed by the US. On this top 10, 6 of them are in Europe, and there are two African entries.
These are interesting stats, and proof that crowdsourcing’s interest is getting broader, and the trend is for this interest to keep growing.
The top search terms for Crowsdourcing are still very much general, like “crowd sourcing”, “design crowdsourcing”, “google crowdsourcing”, “crowdsourcing howe”, and “wikipedia crowdsourcing”. Maybe we’ll see more specific terms in the future as crowdsourcing consolidates itself in the masses mind as a new way to do business.
